We have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 World Aid Walk because of the current threat of the COVID-19 pandemic to the Bailiwick. It's incredibly important to us that we keep our walkers and volunteers safe, and follow Public Health advice on social distancing, so although this is incredibly disappointing, we know that it is the right decision to make at this time.
As 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the World Aid Walk we were keen to reschedule the event, which will now take place in Guernsey at 2pm on 12 September 2020. We know that the money raised by the World Aid Walk makes a real difference to the lives of some of the world's poorest people, so we hope that the Bailiwick can support the event on the new date of 12 September.
The walk will begin from the start point at La Mare de Carteret School for the full distance route of 20km beginning at 2pm and a start point of the Beach House at Pembroke for a half distance route of 10km beginning at 3pm.
ActionAid, Christian Aid, The Tumaini Fund, This Is EPIC, and The Eleanor Foundation, will all benefit from the funds you raise in 2020. Read more about their chosen projects on this website www.worldaidwalk.org.gg. Every penny you donate this year will be doubled by the Overseas Aid & Development Commission, so please encourage all your friends, family and colleagues to donate and help change the lives of some of the poorest communities in the world.
We are delighted to continue our association with our sponsors Northern Trust, Thatchers and Specsavers. The funds that they provide ensure the smooth running of the World Aid Walk as well as ensuring that every penny raised from the walk goes towards the beneficiary charities. The Overseas Aid and Development Commission has again agreed to match fund every penny raised by the Walk, so that means your donations will go twice as far to help some of the poorest communities in the world, so please encourage everyone you know to donate.
We are selling bespoke World Aid Walk 2020 t-shirts as part of the registration process for just £6. The shirts are made from technical sports material, which is breathable and 100% ethically sourced. All profits from the sale of the shirts will go directly to the five beneficiary charities of this year's Walk. You can collect your shirt at the start of the walk on Saturday 12th September.
A huge thank you for caring to help the world’s poorest communities.
Happy fundraising!
