About Siemens Mobility 3K Charity Walk

This year’s Black History Month theme, “Reclaiming Narratives,” marks a significant shift towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. In line with this, the Siemens Mobility EmbRACE network is hosting a charity walk on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, to raise awareness for sickle cell anaemia. This disorder disproportionately affects individuals of African and Caribbean descent. Sickle cell impacts 15,000 people in the UK alone and continues to be misunderstood and underfunded. Join us as we walk to raise awareness and make a difference!

Why support ACLT?

The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) is a crucial support system for people affected by blood-related illnesses such as sickle cell. Founded in 1996, ACLT's mission is to increase the number of stem cell, blood and organ donors from ethnic minority communities, providing a lifeline for those who may otherwise have limited treatment options. ACLT's efforts extend beyond raising awareness — they offer emotional and practical support to patients and families, tirelessly working to boost donor registrations and bring hope to those who need it most.

Why is this charity walk important?

Sickle cell anaemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects how oxygen is carried throughout the body, leading to painful episodes, organ damage and potentially life-threatening complications. Those affected face the daily challenge of managing this chronic illness, but with your support, we can offer hope. Every penny raised from this charity walk will directly support ACLT’s ongoing initiatives, which include:

  • Providing life-saving support to individuals with sickle cell across the UK

  • Increasing donor registrations to help more people from African and Caribbean communities find life-saving matches

  • Raising awareness about the critical need for stem cell, blood, and organ donations within ethnic minority groups

How you can make a difference

Every step you take will raise both funds and awareness for this incredibly important cause. And the best part? At just under 2 miles, a 3k walk is a perfect distance, taking only 35-45 minutes at a moderate pace, with no pressure to finish at a certain time.

Our target is to raise £5,000 to support ACLT’s vital initiatives, and with your help, we can get there! Every contribution counts and whether you donate, share, or participate, you’re helping to save lives.

Can’t Join the Walk? You Can Still Help!

If you’re unable to join us on the day, you can still make a significant impact by donating or sharing this page with your network. Even spreading the word can inspire others to get involved and help us reach our goal.

Together, we can make a difference — one step at a time.
