An evening of talks and discussions around training and nutrition considerations for the female athlete. As Stacy Sims's rightly says, 'women are not small men'. Therefore female athletes of all ages need to much more cognisant of how they plan and execute their training, how and when to fuel and how to incorporate strength training for optimal health and performance.
We are stoked to welcome Dr Jess Langtree-Marsh (@jersey_gynae_gp), Paul Garrod (True Food Sports Nutrition), Katie Silva, Louise Bailey & Rik De Louche who will deliver some short presentations followed by a Q&A.
Dr Langtree-Marsh is a highly regarded GP with a special interest in women's welfare. She will discuss the menstrual cycle and the hormones involved, how this affects mood and energy, how exercise should be tailored to this, how women differ from men and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport.
Paul Garrod is a specialist in sports and exercise nutrition and has a special interest in endurance and ultra events.
Katie Silva is both an Island Games athlete and triathlon coach.
Louise Bailey has been a personal trainer for 12 years and is a keen runner and triathlete.
Rik De Louche is a personal trainer and running coach with a penchant for trail and ultra running.
We feel this would benefit both female runners looking to improve their health and performance as well as coaches seeking to learn how to work more effectively with their female athletes.
