We are delighted to add a new event for 2021… the Tour de Rennie Grove Cycle!
Challenge yourself to complete the entire tour or choose to take part in one of the legs – so it’s perfect for beginners or seasoned cyclists! Each leg covers an area our nurses work within so you’ll be retracing the miles they cover every day. You will receive a Tour de Rennie Grove cycle jersey and those who reach their fundraising target will also receive a medal.
The event will take place over 3 consecutive weekends in June.
Leg 1 – 12 - 13 June
Leg 2 – 19 - 20 June
Leg 3 – 26 - 27 June
You will be provided with the route (via Strava) for each leg. All routes will be self-guided so please ensure you stay safe and abide by road safety measures. Each route will be around 50 miles in length. A more detailed overview of the routes is below.
Please note this is a self-guided event, giving you the flexibility to start the event at a point of your choosing and at a time most suitable for you, however this does also mean the routes will not have marshals or water points along them so please ensure you take suitable supplies.
We are encouraging participants to raise £1 for every mile they travel, so £50 per leg. But don’t let that limit your fundraising – the more you raise the more, hours of nursing care you will be helping to fund ensuring we can continue to care for and support patients and families in the comfort of their own homes, making every moment matter.
Every participant will receive a Tour de Rennie Grove cycle jersey* and if you reach your fundraising target you will receive a medal.
Leg 1 (St Albans) - The Scenic Ride
Heading out of St Albans, the Leg 1 route leaves Hertfordshire and heads into the scenic countryside of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire where it passes along quiet lanes, through villages and includes beauty spots such as Whipsnade, Ivinghoe Beacon and the Ashridge estate. It then returns into the suburbs of Herts, weaving a course around before heading back to St Albans.
Leg 2 (Tring) - The Hilly Ride
Starting from Tring, the Leg 2 route spends most of its time in and around the Chilterns so there is barely a flat piece of road. The route includes Whiteleaf, one of the Top 100 Climbs in Britain, but omits its little brother "Wardrobes". That's not all though, there are notable ascents out of Great Missenden, Chesham and Berkhamsted as well as on the way into Aldbury before coasting down to the Grand Union canal for the final short drag back up into Tring.
Leg 3 (Amersham) - The Eclectic Ride
Mainly within Buckinghamshire, briefly emerging into Berkshire, the Leg 3 route navigates its way around one of the most densely populated areas around London, but dipping in and out of deserted country lanes you would barely know it. This route includes almost everything; pretty historic villages with half-timbered houses, quaint bridges over the Thames, roads that duck under or over the M40 and A4, modern town centers, deserted lanes with gravel 'center partings', suburban streets, short steep descents and the flatness of the Thames Valley. You'll need to keep your eye on the route and it twists and turns to keep you away from traffic wherever possible and enjoy the feeling of being away from it all in the Bucks countryside.
All cycle jerseys have now been sent out to those that have already signed up to the event, if you sign up after this date (Wednesday 2 June), you will receive a cycle jersey however, not ahead of the first leg taking place. Please note we have now sold out of all small cycle jerseys.
*cycle jerseys are made from a cool-dry fabric, are breathable, quick dry and contain 3 pockets to the lower back of the jersey including 1 zip pocket. They use a zip to open the jersey.
