About Safeguarding Adults in Sport and Physical Activity

About this event

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Learn how you can support and promote the welfare of adults in sport and physical activity in this is face-to-face delivered workshop. The course was developed in partnership with the Ann Craft Trust, and is delivered by Jersey Sport tutors. The Jersey-specific referral system will be included.

Audience

This course is suitable for everyone who delivers coaching in clubs, community sport and physical activity, such as coaches, activators, sports administrators, front of house staff and volunteers.

Please note: you must be a current resident of Jersey to access our training and workshops.

Aim

Nobody should have to worry about abuse or harassment. This workshop will give you the knowledge and confidence to safeguard adults within your sports organisation, including those identified as ‘at risk’. You’ll learn how to create a safe environment in which all adults can enjoy sport and physical activity.

Learning Outcomes

Through learning and scenario-based application, discover how to identify when an adult needs safeguarding and how to take appropriate and effective action to:

– Support the welfare of all adults within your sports organisation and at your physical activity sessions

– Recognise abuse and potential signs of abuse

– Gain insight into how to manage and deal with safeguarding concerns by following the four ‘Rs’ of safeguarding

– Recognise poor practice

– Think about creating positive and safe environments

– Learn the six principles of safeguarding adults

On-going Support

Sports organisations have a responsibility to ensure all children, adults and ‘at risk’ individuals are appropriately safeguarded. As part of this, appropriate policies, procedures, training and support should be in place.

Jersey Sport are here to support local sports organisations in implementing good safeguarding and governance practices. For guidance, get in touch with our Sports Team at sport@jerseysport.je and take a look at our quality standards and recommendations online via the Safe and Sustainable Sport webpage: www.jerseysport.je/safe-and-sustainable-sport

Additional Learning

For further learning, Jersey Sport also deliver the NSPCC’s ‘Time to Listen’ for Welfare Officers workshop. Whilst this training is designed predominately for welfare officers and safeguarding leads, it is open to anybody who would like to advance their safeguarding knowledge and understanding. Therefore, the ‘Time to Listen’ workshops are recommended for all Welfare Officers, Committee Members, Coaches and Officials. For details of all our upcoming workshops, please visit: www.JerseySport.je/workshops.
