About Designated Safeguarding Lead Network for Sport: Understanding DBS Checks

Further to the launch of the new Designated Safeguarding Lead Network for Sport in November 2025, Jersey Sport are delighted to be working with the Government of Jersey (Building a Safer Community) and Safeguarding Partnership Jersey to deliver the second forum event of 2026, which focusses on understanding DBS requirements for sport organisations.

The event aims to support the roles of Welfare Officers / Safeguarding Leads of local sport organisations and their work within community sport to implement safeguarding improvements in local sport.

Wednesday 3 June 2026 | 18:00 - 20:00 | Caesarean Tennis Club

The session will be delivered by DBS Regional Outreach Service Advisor for the Channel Islands, Kiran Rehal. The two-hour workshop will cover:

  • The different levels of DBS checks
  • Who/when an employee or volunteer is eligible for a check
  • Regulated activity with children and adults
  • When to make barring referrals to DBS

There will be opportunities for attendees to ask questions specific to their sport organisation's context. Representatives from GoJ and Jersey Sport will also be present. Light refreshments will be provided.
