About Off Road Coaching

Beginners / Intermediate Off Road – Mountain Biking 

Join Jay Cracknell our off road coach for the basics & some challenges of Mountain Biking at Jubilee Hill. 

We will meet in the Car Park at Jubilee Hill ///maxims.segment.terrain , please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled start time. There will be a toilet in the car park to be used as needed & a van if you wish to leave a bag behind at all. 

Weather 

Should we need to cancel due to adverse weather conditions, you will be informed of this decision a minimum of 2 hours before the session, ideally the day before via email. 

Session Timings  

Youth Session 13:00 - 14:00 (Parents / carers are not required to stay but a volunteer in this session would be great)  

Adult Session 14:15 - 15:15 

Objectives 

This session is targeted towards new riders & beginners to help gain confidence & skills around off road Mountain Bike riding. 

Skills that may be covered within these sessions:  

  • Body position 

  • Body movement 

  • Cornering 

  • Braking 

  • Pedaling 

  • Gear selection 

  • Mounting and dismounting 

  • Weighting and unweighting 

  • Absorbing and compressing 

We will be targeting off road cycling which relates towards Mountain Biking in these sessions, a drop bar / curly handle barred bike will not be suitable for these sessions. 

What to bring:  

  • Water  

  • Snack 

  • Weather Appropriate Clothing 

  • Bike of choice (Flat Bar, ideally some sort of suspension but not a must) 

  • Helmet  

  • Gloves  

  • Protective Eyewear  

Please check the weather in advance and bring weather appropriate items: 

• gloves for colder weather,  

• rain jackets/waterproof clothing, 

• sun protection and light layers for warm days).

If your bike or helmet does not meet these checks please take them to a local bike shop.  

Get to know your coach -  

Whilst only recently qualifying as an off road coach Jay has been coaching since he was 15 Years old in many different capacities. Jay now rides & races, road, mountain bike & cyclocross events in Jersey & off the island. 

Jay has also helped The Jersey Cycling Association to achieve the Jersey Sport Green Status in their health check, meaning that we are a safe and sustainable association.
